Winning Employer of the Year 2010/2011 last year was one of the most amazing moments in my hairdressing career. You’d have to say it did come at an awesome time. In 2005 I purchased a salon named TRUE GRIT!! Over the last 6 years True Grit hair spa has gone from strength to strength! Our determination and “True Grit personality” has left us in the forefront of the hairdressing industry. We have survived three moves and have just recently witnessed the destruction of our beautiful salon on Manchester Street preceding the February Earthquake. Our latest salon effectively renamed “the bunker” because of its gutsy construction is now our home. We can continue to do sensational hair and indulge our wonderful clients. My promise to the industry is to continue to train and mentor the best of young stylists. I’m very proud to say I have been invited by L’Oreal to be a member of the INOA creative team. This has been a diverse part of my career in the industry. I thrive on training other hairdressers around New Zealand and spending time with like minded industry friends. After 27 years of hairdressing my passion for hair on all levels still remains and will continue to do so forever! Oh and by the way winning Employer of the Year 2010/2011 last year was one of the most amazing moments in my hairdressing career.

I have a passion for the hair and fashion industries, enjoying 20 years of experience in the trade. For the past 10 years I have been focused on the management side of hairdressing. Working closely with Kitomba and motivational companies to keep the team and the business growing is extremely satisfying and rewarding.

Amy Connolly – Style Director

I love hairdressing! I have been in the industry for 11 years and it still excites me as much as it did the day I first started. My achievements so far include top apprentice hairdresser Canterbury/Westland, top senior hairdresser Canterbury/Westland, 4 years in L’Oreal’s artistic team, and ID team NZ and top placings in both L’Oreal colour trophy and Redken photographic awards. If I were to describe my own style, it would be the ultimate glamour puss. My influences come from the red carpet, video clips and magazines – especially Vogue. I believe hair is your biggest accessory; it must compliment your eyes, skin tone, face/body shape and also your lifestyle. This is something I always take into consideration before styling. After living and working overseas for six years, I bring all my passion back with me to True Grit hair spa. As a hair stylist for 20 years, I have seen things come and go, so utilising my creativity and experience as a well-established stylist, I can influence a new you!

My inspiration comes from fashion, travel and catwalk shows, and creating art using make-up, which I love to do in the salon. So come and get the WOW factor from me.

Jen Finch – Style Director

I’m back on the floor after having a year off having my gorgeous wee girl Lexi. It’s great to be back with my fellow Gritters. I have been in the hairdressing industry for 18 years and have worked for Jacqui for 11 years. I love this industry to work in because it is constantly changing and evolving, so very inspiring with new looks every season. If you are after a new look, I love makeovers – even if it’s just adding a new fringe, or a touch of colour, it can make you feel like a new person. I think the key to my hairdressing is to make it as easy as possible for my clients to maintain their look at home, but hey, if you want to glam it up, I can offer a few handy tips!

Haley Scandrett - Style Director

After being away from True Grit for two and a half years,(and missing not being there!) its time to come back and be apart of this amazing team again! For the past two years I have been living and working in fashionable and quirky Brighton, U.K. I worked in two top salons gaining experience in colouring, cutting and blow drying. I attended L’Oreal and Redken shows and seminars in London, hosted by the world’s top stylists. They gave me the skills and confidence to experiment with the latest trends in applying colour and latest and greatest cutting techniques. It was definitely a once in a life time experience for me.

I gain my inspiration from international fashion, hairdressing magazines, advertisements from fashions top designers, and my travelling experience visiting top salons in France, Germany, Spain and London.

After five months of extensive travel through Nepal, Sri Lanka and India. I was ready to come home. I jumped at the chance when Jacqui offered me my position back at True Grit. I believe True Grit Hair Spa will offer you a bespoke, seamless and beautiful experience where our client’s journey is at the heart of all we do. I feel positive about coming back to my home town and can’t wait to see all the new transformations that are happening since I’ve been away. So I hope to see some familiar faces again and meet some new ones!!

Nicke Connolly - New Generation Stylist (Qualified)

I have been hairdressing for five years and have done a few fashion shows and competition work, which I find to be a great challenge. It is one of the aspects of my industry that inspires and motivates me, there is no hair that I cannot do! I believe the art to being a sensational stylist is having the ability to listen to my clients wants and needs and diagnosing the hair and scalp correctly. I will always give 105% in my effort to satisfy your needs, so come and see me and let me get creative. I am successfully completing all stages of my trade and as I am an Intermediate Stylist I am looking forward to taking my clients on my next journey to being a senior style director at True Grit by the end of 2011.

Summer Ramsay – New Generation Stylist (Qualified) / Kerastase Specialist

I moved to Christchurch from Wellington where I had been hairdressing, 3 years ago. I feel very fortunate to have landed a job at True Grit. Surrounded by exceptional hair-stylists with a lot of passion.

Last year I placed 2^nd in Canterbury Apprentice Woman’s Cut and this year 3^rd place in Canterbury Westland NZRH Editorial stylist of the year.

I qualified in October and I am excited about the direction my career is heading.

I am a Kerastase Specialist for the salon and also the In-salon trainer for the Young New Generation team.

I have been with the amazing True Grit hair spa team for nearly 3 years, and have just recently qualified to the next level of my training to the New Generation Team. I am so excited to be living in Christchurch as there are a lot of positive changes happening in the city and I am proud to be supporting my hometown. I am a New Generation Stylist. I have recently finished my apprenticeship, thanks to the 3 years of awesome training I’ve had at True Grit hair spa.

I have competed in the Canterbury Regional Competitions, and placed 2^nd in the Nightstyle category. Recently Summer and I got 3^rd place and a Judges Recognition in the NZ  Editorial photographic competition.
